Samburu National Reserve, in Kenya’s semi-arid north, is home to species found nowhere else on a typical southern safari circuit: the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich and gerenuk are all easier to see here than in the Maasai Mara or Amboseli. The Ewaso Ng’iro River runs through the reserve and draws elephant, lion and leopard to its banks, especially in the dry season.
