Amboseli National Park sits at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, and its open, dry-lake landscape gives some of the clearest views in Africa of elephant herds walking with Africa’s tallest peak as a backdrop. Amboseli is best known for its large, well-studied elephant families, along with buffalo, giraffe, zebra and healthy predator numbers.
The park is about a four-hour drive south-east of Nairobi, close to the Tanzanian border, which makes it easy to combine with Tsavo, the Mombasa coast, or a cross-border Kenya-Tanzania safari. Eastern Voyage Safaris also offers Amboseli fly-in safaris for travellers on a shorter stay who want to avoid the road transfer.
Because of its swamps and permanent water sources, Amboseli holds wildlife year-round, making it a reliable choice regardless of when you travel.
